Guess what I found? A whole entire sculpture garden filled with works from Papua New Guinea!!! SCORE!! To be honest, this week has been a little challenging to come up with fun projects, although I love the tribal masks we made. Then I remembered something I saw when we went to the Cantor Center for Visual Arts at Stanford (remember? ) and looked online and found a lovely surprise! 
In 1994, a group of Papua New Guinea tribesmen from the Sepik River area were invited to come to Stanford and do some sculptures. Their work is amazing and on view in a beautiful garden dedicated to showcasing it. There are plaques that tell you about the work and a little about the artists. It was really much more impressive than the pictures show. The kids had a ball running around from one to another. I hope my pictures do it justice. If you ever happen to be in the Stanford area, check it out!! If you can't make it, here are pictures :)
The much revered crocodile ancestor, Tekwan and(below) Iatmul poles, that are usually part of the ceremonial Spirit Houses. Each pole tells a story.
I really wanted to post ALL 50 pics I took but I chose to condense! There are a lot more sculptures in the garden- it's really pretty cool!! Even my husband thought so!
